Getting in the Holiday Spirit – Riverside Style

By: UCPath Center

The holiday season is right around the corner and although Riverside residents may not get a white Christmas, there are still plenty of other festive and diverse ways to soak up this special time of year. Riverside goes above and beyond to get into the holiday spirit with a range of fun and family-friendly activities that you can take part in this November and December.

Check out the Mission Inn Festival of Lights

The historical Mission Inn will celebrate its 25th Annual Festival of Lights on November 24. This free outdoor event is the largest of its kind and has been named the “Best Public Lights Display In The Nation” by USA Today. The festival will commence with its “Switch On” ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 24. During the ceremony, five million holiday lights will be illuminated, followed by a fireworks show. If you’re unable to attend on this date, no worries! The festival continues for six weeks with special appearances by Santa Claus, horse-drawn carriage rides, and festive treats to enjoy under the elaborately decorated Christmas trees.

Lace up for the Riverside Reindeer Run

Get in the holiday spirit when you sign up for the Riverside Reindeer Run. Choose between the Reindeer Run Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids Run on December 3 in Fairmount Park. The festive run will be complete with carolers, an appearance from Santa Claus and plenty of holiday music, decorations, and entertainment.

Attend a Musical Performance

Riverside Philharmonic presents “Happy Holidays,” a performance featuring the Raincross Master Chorale and Chorus Director, Bill Brakemeyer. The concert will be held at the new Coil School for Arts Concert Hall on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17.

On December 1 and 2, La Sierra University will hold their 70th Candlelight Concert. This free event is perfect for families looking to enjoy various music ensembles, as well as a festive sing-along to the traditional Hallelujah chorus.

Head to the Theatre

The Riverside Ballet Theatre Company will also put on its 38th performance of the Nutcracker performed by their talented and well-trained dancers. The performance will feature choreography by David Allan as well as dazzling sets and spectacular costumes. Performance dates will be December 16 and 17, at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Considering relocating for a job? Here’s what you need to know.

If you’re looking to enjoy a beautiful light display or to experience a live show of the classic Nutcracker, there are plenty of options this holiday season in Riverside County for residents to get in a merry spirit. The 25th Annual Festival of Lights at the historic Mission Inn is anticipated to have their best holiday show yet and is certainly not to be missed this year!
