Last year, UCPath Center employees filled out a survey about their level of engagement and motivation at work, their confidence in their leaders, as well as their pay, benefits and other employment essentials that resulted in the top workplace honor.

“I absolutely love the teamwork and the respect that we all have for one another. It is fun coming to work with happy people who love where they work and I see smiles everywhere I turn,” said Lilia Chanon, payroll associate. “My assignments bring out the knowledge and skills that I have been aching to put to use for a long time. Not to mention the positive acknowledgment and feedback I receive from my teammates – they encourage me to strive higher.”

Veronica Zuno, workforce administration assistant, said her favorite part of working at the UCPath Center is her colleagues. “We have a great team here. We’re all here to support one another to grow professionally, as well as personally.”
2. A healthy relationship with their manager. When the lines of communication between employees and management are open, this helps keep professional objectives clear and projects focused.
Former Finance Supervisor Essam Ulhaq said if employees find a more efficient way to complete a task, management listens. “[Management] encourages and motivates you to find more innovative ways to do things,” he added.
Caroline Rodriguez, performance metrics, and quality analyst, said her manager encourages her team to employ critical thinking. “The UCPath Center employs a top-down leadership approach,” she shared, but her “manager is ready and willing to jump in when tasks get difficult.”
“Having a well-put-together team starts from the top and I’m so fortunate to have such an amazing leadership team,” added Senior Employee Service Associate Gina Aguirre.
3. Employees are up for the challenge. Interesting and stimulating tasks make employees feel productive. UCPath Center employees have a hand in creating a platform to replace the University of California’s 40-year-old payroll/personnel system with up-to-date technology.
“It’s like starting a brand new company from the ground floor up by developing processes, and training employees,” said Benefits Associate Gail Meloan.

Monica Johnson is a great example of the career advancement possibilities at the UCPath Center. The workforce administration supervisor has climbed up the career ladder during her tenure at the UCPath Center. She started off as a workforce administration generalist in 2013. Because of her skills, previous experience, and work ethic, Monica worked her way up to supervisor by 2016.
“The fact that we have so many growth opportunities is my favorite part,” Johnson revealed. “Every day is something new. To be a part of this huge development that has never done before in education is astounding. I get to assert my own ideas on projects. The reward at the end of the day is that you can say you were a part of it, and that’s a great feeling.”
